Who are we? Meet the coaches

Mike Matthews

Mike is an ex-international sabreur who fenced for the Polish National Team on many occasions. Mike coaches the 2005 Men's Under 17 World Sabre Champion Alex O’Connell. He is currently U20 National Sabre coach. Mike coaches at LTFC three nights a week.

Steve Roose

Steve won the Commonwealth gold medal for epee in 1978 and fenced for the Great Britain team between 1978 and 1982. He was coach to the British epee team between 1985 - 1990 and is a Maitre d'Escrime at both epee and foil. Steve coaches all three nights and still fences competitively on occasions.

Peter Barrett- Epee

Peter joined LTFC in August 2003, coaching on Monday and Thursday evenings. He has been coaching since 1979, initially at Poly Fencing Club, but is best known in epee circles as one of the founders and driving forces behind Haverstock Fencing Club. Peter has also been coach to the GB Under 20 Men's Epee squad since 1998. He has a BAF Diploma in epee and is currently studying for a M.Sc degree in Sports Science.
